Scripture: Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ. -Galatians 1:10
Observation: This is a relevant question for us today. This question may seem easy to answer in one area of our lives, and much more difficult in other areas. We are called to be at peace and to bless our fellow man, be a good witness and example of Christ in this dark world. Deep down we all want either approval or to be liked by our fellow men. So how and when do we know the difference in specific situations?
Application: Seek first the King and His Kingdom. Second, listen to the Holy Spirit within you for each decision you make. While we certainly do not want to offend men unnecessarily, we must be very careful to live by our Christian principles. If our values and beliefs are offensive to others, we must continue to stand up for what is right. The Hagler family motto that hangs on the wall of my home office is:
Do what’s right – Live by your Christian Principles taught in the Word
Do it because it’s Right – Even when it is hard and will cost you something
Do it right. – Do it with all your heart and with excellence
Prayer: Lord, guide me today in all my decisions. My desire is to please You above the approval of men. May all my actions be pleasing to You and let Your light shine through me to all I come in contact with today.
